I wish everyone reading this a very Happy Ugadi!
Ugadi is the beginning of a new year in the Hindu calender. In this festival, Panchanga, the Brahmin calender is an important guide for us. Initially, at the beginning of the day, Panchanga pooja is done. This calender is the bible for all the festivals, important dates and star signs for the current year is detailed. We had "bevu-bella", which signifies the happiness and sorrows shared in our lives.
The day was relaxed. We visited my parents to start with the festival. It's a pleasure to meet your parents always, especially on a festival day..There is happiness, cheer and joy in the house. We wished my parents, bro and SIL. My mother had made Mysore-pak. It was tasty and melted when I took a bite..:) She hurridly made aloo bondas..Served smoking hot with chutney, we all enjoyed it..Hmmm it was yummmy! Awesome! We were there for a short while. Our next plan for the day was to visit Dodamma's place.
On the way to Dodamma's house, I was recollecting the moments spent in my parents' house. I was in tears of joy. It is such a nice feeling to meet your loved ones and to give and receive love...
Every Ugadi, the whole family meets in Dodamma's house. This time too it was planned and pot-luck was the plan for the day. Our contribution for the buffet was Pulav and raitha. Likely, everybody had made special dishes for the lunch get-together. The menu was sprouted green gram and pomegranate salad, akki kadalebele payasa (rice and dal kheer), pulav, puliyogare, rice and sambar, curd rice, moti-choor laddu, ans kaayi holige (coconut puranpoli). There was grapes and bananas for dessert. Everybody enjoyed the lunch over a lot of updates from everyone..Pradeep n Sumanth telling us stories of latest happenings in Infy..
Nimmi, our aunt, as usual had planned for something. Everybody agreed upon her housie-housie request. All of us waited with bated breath for our numbers! Damn it! None of them were ours..Here and there, people started getting theirs..The first one was won by Indira atte for the "unlucky" title :)..First row by Prakash, Pradeep for the second and Kamakshi atte for a "jaldi 5". Cribbing for a while, the jackpot went to Kamakshi atte!! She won the full house and the last row! Man! lucky lady I should tell you..I pulled her leg that she has to get us chats from the cash prize won..;P.. Sumanth screamed at Nimmi to pick up his last lucky number "18". Nimmi got confused and saw 81 and 18 again on the number board..She said, " 18 is already called out my boy"!! He was totally engaged in chatting, absent minded and cutting jokes; poor guy forgot to mark 18 in his ticket!! Lost out on his cash prize!! haha..Everybody pulled his leg! Seetharam uncle won the second full house..It was a nice time..
